Construction Tips For Beginners

I'm glad you stopped by my website. I am Rafael Singleton. I always felt that there wasn't enough information available for those who would like to do a little renovation or those who would like to engage in their own construction projects. There is a lot of information that would be helpful for a professional construction contractor, but I always had a difficult time navigating the resources out there as a layman. I'm the type who always likes to take the initiative to get something done if I notice nobody else stepping up to the plate, so I decided to create this website focused on construction.

Become The Joneses: Get The Best Kitchen On The Block

by Dawn Henry

Updating your kitchen can be a lot of fun. You don't want to just modernize your current kitchen—you want to make it the best. Here are the top, unique additions you should add to your new kitchen design.

Cabinet Pantry

The first thing you should add to your new kitchen is a can pantry in your cabinets. You want your cans to be stacked up like they are in the grocery store. The easiest version allows you to put the can in the front and it rolls around to a lower slot. This way the oldest cans are in the front and the newest are in the back. There are also some models that have you put the can in the back. This is only going to work well if you have access from the back. This could work if you have a walk-in pantry right next to the cupboard where you will store your cans.

The nice thing about this is that your cans are not going to be stacked on top of each other. You don't have to worry about them tipping over. There is a designated space for each of your canned goods. It is much more efficient.

Make the Most of Your Island

A lot of people have an island in their kitchen, but they are not going to have an island like you do.

First, have your contractor install a grill on your island. You can either buy a stove/oven/grill unit or you can get a gas or electric grill installed. Either way you will be able to enjoy burgers, brats and steaks no matter what the weather is like outside.

Second, put a second sink on the island. One of the busiest places in the kitchen is the sink. Add a second sink and you will be able to have two cooks in the kitchen without both of them fighting over space.

Third, add outlets to your island. Put them just underneath the counter so they cannot be seen. Have them in several locations so that you can mix your dough or cook your waffles anywhere on the island.

Use Deep Cabinet Drawers

You probably get annoyed when you are trying to close the silverware drawer but a fork tine gets stuck on the way. Fix this problem by investing in deep cabinet drawers. Have individual spaces for each type of silverware and store them handle up.

You can also use these deep drawers for storing dinner plates, salad plates and all of your bowls. Tall wooden pegs, or dowels, can be placed in the bottom of the drawer to secure your dishes in place and make them easy to reach.
